And a second time with the same symptoms, nothing showed up, even on a culture. I went into a CVS Minute Clinic and the nurse there told me it was like a fungus gave me some vagisil cream and sent me on my way. I got my blood work and she said it came back positive for the anitbodies. She said because i had already been on valtrex when i saw her that monday she couldnt do cultures on the sores and therefor the only evidence she had was the blood resluts (which she said came back very low the first time and wanted a re test in 6 weeks but never told me to get it). The nurse told me that I had been exposed to the virus but they were doing more blood work to determine if I actually had it. I go to the hospital 3 days later from the pain and they tell me ok you have Pelvic inflammatory disease & a bacterial infection & they put me on antibiotics. She’d cocked her head and tossed me a pity smile, as if to say, don’t you think I’ve seen enough herpes to know what it looks like?. My sores couldn’t be anything else, she told me. Both of my blood tests for HSV-1 and HSV-2 were negative. I gathered up my college medical records to show hera real doctor, I reassured myself, no nurse practitioner.

The next day I get a call not from the Dr but from her nurse saying that my Dr said it could be either oral or gential. I told her what type do I have she said you rested positive for both hsv1 and hsv2.
Understanding Blood Tests For Herpes
I spoke to a nurse at a sexual health clinic and she told me that unless there is an outbreak and they can swab one of the sores, that blood tests are not reliable because some people have hsv-2 antibodies because they have been exposed at some point, but may not even be active carriers. I spoke with the nurse after all this, she said with the worry of having herpes and the stress of my suck situation I was currently in, I would have had an outbreak by now.
